“Doesn’t Get Enough Credit” – Former Player Backs Current Spurs Star To Bounce Back From Recent Disappointments

|

Former Tottenham Hotspur centre-half and skipper, Michael Dawson, has certainly been making the most of his time in the press spotlight this week as having made a previous crack about his nephew potentially being of interest to Arsenal, he’s also been speaking to The Athletic to discuss the current goalkeeping situation at Spurs, following on from the serious injury Hugo Lloris sustained in the game against Brighton and Hove Albion in our last match ahead of the October international break kicking in.

With it being a mixed year for Lloris given his performances and consistency, Dawson has backed him to come back stronger following his current injury and really prove his worth, as he has no doubts whatsoever that he has the mental strength to do just that.

“He’s made mistakes but then he’ll respond by making amazing saves like against Southampton. That game summarised him and what he’s about. He’ll bounce back from this. He’s that kind of character. He doesn’t get enough credit for his mental strength. I remember when he arrived, he was different class in training but he had to wait for his chance. In training, he was unbelievable but some players have a different mentality in training and then can’t really deliver in matches. Hugo is so strong mentally that he was just as good in matches as in training, if not better.”

In some ways, the shoulder dislocation has come at completely the wrong time given our form overall in 2019/20, but if you have to look for a silver lining, then it takes the Frenchman out of the spotlight and the firing line and it gives him plenty of time to assess things.

Given his experience in the game, the 32-year-old will be wanting to prove a point on his return, and we all know Lloris in top form, is definitely an asset for us.
